Director, Community Relations
Heather joined the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office in early 2007 as a media spokesperson and communications coordinator. In 2017, she was promoted to Director of Community Relations by Sheriff Mike Prendergast. Prior to joining the CCSO, she spent twenty years in the work force specializing in corporate communications and management for Fortune 50 companies. She then worked independently as a freelance writer and business owner.
Heather graduated with honors from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in communications. She then received her Master’s in English with a specialty in writing. She is also a proud graduate of Citrus High School, graduating fifth in her class.
Heather is an active member of her community. She has served on the Board of Directors for Partners for a Substance Free Citrus; Jessie’s Place, Citrus County’s Children’s Advocacy Center, named in honor of Jessica Lunsford; the George A. Dame Community Health Center; and Dementia Friendly America – Citrus County. She is a Certified Public Manager and is Past President of the Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. She is a member of the National Information Association and the Florida Law Enforcement Officers Public Information Association.
Heather resides in Floral City, Florida, with her husband Doug, three children -- Cy (19), who attends Florida State University, and twins Chance and Chyna (16).
