Elena moved to Citrus County from South Florida in the 1980s. She graduated from Citrus High School and then attained an Associate’s degree in Elementary Education from Central Florida University. She then attended Gulf Coast University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Elena also graduated from St. Leo University’s Command Officer’s course and is a Certified Public Manager.
Elena started her career in Law Enforcement in 1987. She began working as a Communications Officer. As a Sheriff’s Office employee, she has held the positions of Communications Supervisor, Radiological Emergency Planner, Civil Deputy, Bailiff, Training Deputy, Human Resources Manager (Sergeant), Communications Manager (Sergeant), Assistant Emergency Management Director (Lieutenant), Human Resources Director (Captain)and is now Colonel overseeing the Bureau of Support Operations.
Elena has been involved with several community functions, such as Junior Achievement, Shop With A Cop, and 4-H. Elena enjoys many hobbies, including horseback riding, camping, and outdoor activities. She is married and has two children.
